Who could? 100 funny questions to liven up your evenings

The scene, you know it: the music is good, the drinks are full… but the atmosphere is stalling. It lacks the spark that unlocks laughter and breaks the awkwardness of the first minutes. We keep it simple, drop the puzzle: I propose “Who Could…?”, the ice-breaker the most effective of cocktail party games — zero prep, no equipment, and guaranteed to trigger improbable revelations.

Rules of the “Who Could” game: simple, fun and ice-breaker

The idea is in one sentence: ask a “Who could” question, count to three, and everyone designates the person in the group who fits best. Rest assured: it’s a self-deprecating humor game, benevolent. It teases, it nudges, but always in the good spirit.

Fluid round of questions: everyone asks a question in turn. If someone is frequently pointed at, grant them the right to “plead guilty” with an anecdote — that’s where the big laughs begin. And if a question makes anyone uncomfortable, skip it: the comfort of all comes first.

Golden rule: we laugh with, never at. If a question makes people tense, we skip it without discussion.

To set the pace for the evening, you can name a moderator (they keep the rhythm and read the next questions), try a lightning round (30 seconds per question), or award bonus points for the best justifications.

Mode Ideal for Pace Tip
Classic Mixed groups, early evening Moderate Start with light questions to warm up the atmosphere.
Anonymous vote Big group Slow Vote on paper or on your phone to avoid the mob effect.
Lightning round Afterwork, time-limited Fast 30-second timer, we go on. No debate, only laughs.
With points Competitive minds Moderate +1 for each vote received; a small fun prize for the “winner”.

Quick variations to spice things up without going overboard

Want a twist? Pick one or two variants below and adjust your house rules:

  • Express challenge: the designated person must tell a mini anecdote related to the theme.
  • Soft dares: a dare among light dares (5-second dance, compliment, micro-dare).
  • Joker Card: everyone has 1 Joker to dodge a question in the round.
  • Themed: only ask questions about “work”, “travel”, “evening” or “childhood”.
  • Playlist: the most-mentioned person chooses the next song — a little improv allowed.
