INDEX +

Are your fingers bored during snack time, in the car, or at the birthday party? Good news: with the game Baisse un doigt si, you transform any moment into fits of laughter — no screen, no equipment, just your hands. Below, you will find clear rules, pro tips, then 100 questions for children ready to play, sorted by themes to keep the pace and variety.

Rules of the game “Baisse un doigt si” for children

The principle is simple and inclusive. We play in turns, everyone learns to listen and to express themselves. It’s a real ice-breaker game for the home, the class, the playground, or the car.

Recommended age 5-6 years and up (adapt the phrases)
Equipment No equipment, just 10 fingers per player
Duration 5 to 15 minutes per round
Where to play Living room, birthday, recess, travel, outdoors
  • Each player shows ten fingers spread wide.
  • Someone reads a sentence starting with “Lower a finger if…”.
  • If it’s true for you, you bend one finger. Otherwise, you leave it raised.
  • When a player has no more fingers up, they keep listening and encouraging the others.
  • The last with fingers raised 'wins'… but the important thing is to laugh together.
Facilitator tip: prioritize kindness. We avoid embarrassing topics and value sharing anecdotes. Applaud a good story, not the “score”.

Variants and teaching tips

To keep attention, alternate easy questions and gentle “challenges”. The variant cooperative game rules works very well: instead of eliminating, count collectively how many fingers you lower in one round, then beat your record. You can also offer a round active listening: after each finger lowered, a player tells a mini-story (20 seconds).

Quick framing before starting: we don’t tease, we don’t force anyone to answer. The “little mischiefs” stay light and safe. And if a child wants to skip, they skip. With younger kids, read very short and concrete sentences; with older ones, add a touch of imagination.
